Strawberry Festival 2012

The Strawberry Festival is back again and here are the details...

Strawberry Queen Contest:
Anyone may run for Strawberry King or Queen - even the pug is running again! All contestants are asked to check in at the Welcome Booth to deposit votes and pick up official name tags the day of the festival. Voting is easy - you buy votes! As many as you want and for as many candidates as you please... Repeat voting is not only allowed - it's encouraged! Votes are tallied and the new royalty is announced at 4:30 pm.

Strawberry Dessert Contest:
To achieve fame and prizes without selling yourself to the masses, enter this contest by bringing 20 (plus 3 to be shared for judging) servings of your best strawberry inspired dessert to Birkhofer Hall between 11 am and 12 noon. Judging at 12:30 and winners announced at 1 pm. After the awards, all desserts go on sale: $5 each or 3 for $10. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and most unusual (if there's one that qualifies).

Kid's Activities:
The kid's area is located in the playground of the Guerneville Community Church and we're working on a great kid's line up!

Strawberries:
Super-yummy! All organic strawberries are provided by Food For Humans and are the primary ingredient in the Agua Frescas available at the drink booth. They are also available 3 on a stick (for a $1) to dip at the chocolate fountain - no fingers allowed!). And if there are any left at the end of the day, you may by them for your Sunday waffles and french toast!

Food:
Not to be outdone, KGGV volunteers are cooking up a storm with pulled pork sandwiches served with coleslaw, brats on buns, and for the vegetarian audience - meat-free lasagna.

Drink Booth:
Under the shade of a tent, the aforementioned strawberry aguas frescas will be available alongside homemade lemonade for $3.00 a glass - cup re-use is highly encouraged. At the same booth, flavored waters are offered for free. Stay hydrated and healthy!

Music and The Stage:
We are ever grateful to DJ Milo for the loan of the stage and sound equipment. We are graced with great bands! Each musician has donated his or her time and talent to support KGGV at the Strawberry Festival.

Raffle:
As always, there is a raffle and this year it lives in the breezeway between the sanctuary and the rest of the church grounds. Providing shade for potentially melts and delicious items is keen... Raffle items range from packages assembled by DJs on the themes of their shows to gift certificates at local businesses and local art.

Silent Auction:
Big brother to the outdoor raffle, the silent auction resides in Birkhofer Hall and play host to items such as Garden packages (with gift certificates and goodies), hotel and vacation rental stays, wine (wine trips, wine tours, wine tastings, wine stuff, and actual wine), massage certificates, and oh, so much more. Don't miss the newest addition to the silent auction table: the Buy It Now option. If there's something you absolutely must have, you can write a check for the amount listed and take it home right then and there - no waiting required.

Booths:
A wide array of local businesses and non-profits are joining this year and have booths circling the festival. The Russian River Fire Protection District will be on hand to promote safety and offer continuing community education - or just to say hi! The Sonoma County Animal Shelter mobile adoption van will be on site until 3 pm and you can meet and maybe adopt a new family member...  And the Master Gardener Booth will be next to The Russian River Gardener Booth where you can buy strawberry plants and assorted other goodies... And there's more!

Be sure to come down to say hi to your local DJs, listen to some tunes and have a good time!
